Attendance for this counseling and mediation session is mandatory.
As the child’s well being is of paramount concern to the family court, this process has the child needs as the main priority. It involves the Judge-Mediators and Family counselors providing a programmed of counseling and mediation sessions to assist both parties to work out any parenting issues and disputes related to their children in a non-adversarial setting instead of having these issues decided in a hearing by a judge.
The services of the CFRC are implemented in phases. The first phase started for divorcing couples with at least one child below eight years old for divorces filed on or after 26 September 2011, and the second phase is now implemented for divorcing couples with at least one child below 14 years old for divorces filed on or after July 2013.
